What is a Level 6 Apprenticeship?
A Level 6 Apprenticeship is a higher-level apprenticeship which combines hands-on learning in the workplace and academic study with ur training provider.
There are two types of Level 6 Apprenticeships available, a Higher Level 6 Apprenticeship and a Degree Level 6 Apprenticeship. The Higher Level Apprenticeship provides you with a qualification at the same academic level as a bachelor’s degree, but doesn’t include the full degree. Whereas with the Degree Level 6 Apprenticeship, you’ll be awarded a full bachelor’s degree from the programme.
Other slight differences between the two include the focus of training, a Higher Level 6 Apprenticeship will be more professionally focused, and you’ll concentrate more on practical skills and specific industry needs.
A Degree Level 6 Apprenticeship has more of an academic focus where you’ll be learning broader theoretical knowledge alongside practical skills.
How Long Does a Level 6 Apprenticeship Last?
A Higher Level 6 Apprenticeship can take between 1 – 3 years to complete, whereas a Degree Level 6 Apprenticeship can take between 2 – 6 years to complete.
As Degree Level 6 Apprentices are working towards a full bachelor’s degree qualification, it can take significantly longer.
For either Level 6 Apprenticeship, you’ll be expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per week with 20% being ur off-the-job (OTJ) training where you’ll do ur academic studying with ur training provider.

Who are Level 6 Apprenticeships For?
Anyone can do an apprenticeship as a route to get into their ideal career, but generally, Level 6 Apprenticeships are popular for those who’re looking to gain both practical skills, academic knowledge, and an alternative to university.
These are more challenging than other apprenticeships and you’ll be given more responsibilities within the workplace such as project managing and leading a team.
Why Should I Do a Level 6 Apprenticeship?
There are several benefits to a Level 6 Apprenticeship, including:
• Industry Recognition: Many Level 6 Apprenticeships are made in collaboration with some of the top employers, ensuring the training and qualification is highly relevant in ur chosen field.
• Avoid Student Debt: ur employer or the Government will cover the costs of the apprenticeship so you can still secure a bachelor’s degree without the burden of student debt.
• Stand Out in ur Field: Level 6 Apprenticeships are still relatively uncommon compared to a traditional university degree, so completing one will stand out on ur application to employers.
